I have owned Drees in my hometown Olympia, Washington, since 1976. My favorite part of my job is helping people with quality furnishing and gifts…. Originally we focused on gifts but over the years the shop has expanded and changed to keep up with what our customers want. I have always wanted people to love and keep the things they buy at Drees for a long time. I love going to market and picking the best products I can find. I know that if I love them, Drees’ customers will too. This blog is a way for me to connect with Drees’ customers and to help you create uplifting experiences that enhance your home and life. Beds 101: a class about the mattress

Everyone deserves a Good Night’s sleep!
Many of you have said that you are curious and confused about all the mattress options available today. We took your queries to
heart, and are having a “how beds are made” class – Beds:101
Many of you have also asked, why does Drees sell a mattress? It all started with needing a bed to show our beautiful bed linens. Taking advice from interior designer David Goularte, who has always loved Royal-Pedic for his clients, we introduced Royal-Pedic at Drees. He encouraged us to use this mattress and make it available to our customers. One thing led to julietta in canada another, and we now have many very happy bed owners in the region. We have also have had these beds delivered to second homes in Sun Valley and Palm Desert.
This Wednesday, you will learn more from Tom Sarkala, who has been in the home furnishings business for 30 years. He will explain how most beds are made, most importantly, what they are made of (most with polyurethane), and how true quality mattresses are constructed today. He has a vast knowledge of the bed industry, and will share the history and construction of the Royal-Pedic and other true quality mattresses at Drees.
If you think you will buy another mattress in the future, this class is for you. You will be a much more educated consumer.

Welcome 2014
The New Year is always a great time to feel the optimism of a new chapter. 2014 is no exception. The best news of 2013 was Ruthann receiving a new kidney and recovering well.
Looking to 2014, we will be celebrating the 85th year of Drees in downtown Olympia. Of course, Ruthann has not been around Drees THAT long, but she has kept the shop moving forward over the past thirty-eight years. The shop has created quite a following over its lifetime and we plan to celebrate a few of its milestones throughout the year. We hope you will enjoy and celebrate with us. We’ll keep you posted. We plan to have fun!

Lakewold Designer Showhouse April 3 – 21
Exciting event for Drees! We have been working overtime this past month preparing for the Lakewold Gardens Designer Showhouse. David has been asked to design and furnish the Master Suite. The work is a collaboration of David Bettencourt Goularte Interior Design with furnishings supplied by Drees. The event benefits Mary Bridge Hospital of Tacoma, Washington State Chapter of ASID, and the lovely Lakewold Gardens.
For us at Drees, this is an opportunity to show what we can do for your home, and to show more of what we can offer you through Drees. The room will be featuring exquisite upholstery from Hickory Chair combined with hand picked accent pieces and custom drapery. David and Drees have had many years of projects together. We would love to hear what you think. If you go, be sure to allow some time to see the lovely gardens.
